CFD-Aircraft Aerodynamics

Overview

Aerodynamic design plays a vital role in the preliminary design in the development of commercial aircraft. It influences the finalisation of external aerodynamic shape. Computational aerodynamics is a numerical method which uses panel methods to solve linear flow models for complex geometry and provides solutions to aerodynamic problems.

Problems specific to the aircraft industry can be solved through the use of CATIA for geometric modelling and ICEMCFD & FLUENT for CFD analysis.

This course empowers students to carry out CFD analysis related to aircraft aerodynamic problems.

Objective

  • Describe CFD methodologies for different classes of engineering problems.
  • Create CFD models and solve different problems related to aerodynamics.
  • Use ANSYS ICEM-CFD and ANSYS FLUENT software for modelling, solving and
  • post-processing with proficiency.
  • Analyse industry-specific problems for imposing appropriate grid types, boundary conditions, solver settings in order to arrive at converged CFD results.
