Embedded System Design

On this page

Overview

An Embedded System’ is a physical system with a computing system embedded within it to execute a specific task. Computing systems used in embedded systems have constraints: power consumption, storage space, and size. They have to operate in real time. Challenges of embedded systems lie in the design and integration of hardware and software to meet constraints.

Microprocessor-based system design industries have undergone revolutionary changes in the past decade. Importance is placed on the integration of hardware and software in the design of system. This includes safety-critical applications (such as automotive devices and controls, railways, aircraft, aerospace and medical devices); communications, mobile worlds’ and e‑worlds’, the smart’ home, clothes and factories.

These have a wide-ranging impact on society in terms of security, privacy and modes of working and living. More than 98% of processors applied today are in embedded systems, no longer visible to the customer as computers’ in the ordinary sense. New processors and methods of processing, sensors, actuators, communications and infrastructures are enablers’ for this very pervasive computing.

This programme will help students explore career options in hardware and software development related to Embedded Systems.

Objective

  • Understand embedded processors and write programming.
  • Use software’s such as C, MPLAB, and Keil to meet industrial requirements.
  • To execute design and development of Embedded Systems with knowledge of Advanced C.
  • To programme Embedded Processors and Embedded Real Time Operating Systems.
  • To understand recent developments and applications of Embedded System Technology.
